Viking charters and corporate group programs

Scandinavian design, adults-only sailing, an included excursion in every port, and river ships one program can take entirely.

The short version

Destination-led, and beautifully consistent

Viking built its reputation on river cruising and then applied exactly the same thinking at sea, with the same calm Scandinavian design and the same focus on the destination.

The ships are adults-only, uncluttered and quiet — no casinos, no water parks, no photographers. What you get instead is light, space, excellent food and an enrichment programme built around where the ship actually is. For a corporate audience that wants substance rather than spectacle, it reads as extremely grown-up.

The other advantage is consistency. The ocean ships are close to identical and the river longships even more so, which means a program that works once can be repeated year after year with no surprises. See the at-sea overview for the rest of the brands we represent.

Scandinavian design, and a great deal of light

Viking’s interiors are calm, uncluttered and full of natural light, with an enormous amount of glass and sheltered outdoor space. The public rooms are designed for sitting and talking rather than queueing, and the whole ship feels unhurried. Your attendees notice it within an hour of boarding.

A lot is simply included

A shore excursion in every port, wine and beer with lunch and dinner, wifi, the thermal spa and speciality restaurants are all in the fare. For your budget that removes a long list of variables, and for your guests it removes the sense of being nickel-and-dimed.

Enrichment built around the destination

Resident historians, guest lecturers, destination performances and cultural programming tied to where the ship is that week. It gives a program real intellectual content without you having to source a single speaker.

A serious Nordic spa

Every ocean ship carries a proper thermal suite — sauna, steam, a snow grotto and a hydrotherapy pool — included in the fare. Programs that run hard during the day find it genuinely restorative, and people talk about it.

The river fleet, and why it deserves a look

A Viking longship carries fewer than two hundred guests, which means a program of that size can charter one outright and sail the Rhine, the Danube or the Douro entirely privately, tying up in the centre of a different city every morning. As an incentive, very few things are as easy to sell internally.

Where they sail

Europe’s rivers, and oceans worldwide

The river fleet sails the Rhine, Danube, Douro, Seine, Rhône, Elbe and the Egyptian Nile from spring through the Christmas markets in December. The ocean fleet works the Mediterranean and Northern Europe through the warmer months from Barcelona, Rome, Venice, Bergen and Amsterdam, the Caribbean and South America in winter, and maintains deployment across Alaska, Asia, Australia and the Antarctic and Arctic on the expedition ships.

If a river charter is of interest, start early — the longships are small and the popular months move well in advance. Tell us where your people are and what you want them to see.

Working together

How we make Viking work for your program

Buy the Sea has been placing corporate groups and full ship charters with Viking for many years, across both the river and ocean fleets. We know the ships, we know the people, and we know what to ask for and when to ask for it so that your program gets the sailing and the dates it needs. That is the part we handle.

Bring us a headcount, a budget and a range of dates. We will come back with real options across the Viking fleet — and across every other line, because we represent all of them and we are paid by the cruise line, never by you. There is no fee, no markup and no obligation. Here is why that matters.

Questions planners ask

Viking, answered

Can we run the same program two years running?

Easily, and this is one of the real strengths here. The ships are close to identical across each fleet, so a program that worked once can be repeated on a different ship or a different river with almost no redesign.

How far ahead should we book?

For a group block, twelve to eighteen months. For a river charter, plan on eighteen to twenty-four months — the longships are small and the good months go early.

What does Buy the Sea charge?

Nothing. We are compensated by the cruise line, never by you. More in the FAQ.

Helping You Choose

A program of 180 can charter an entire river ship. That is the pitch.
