We receive dozens of cruise line videos and this one is “share-worthy” because it truly captures the spirit and the public spaces of the new Holland America Koningsdam.  Her décor is modern and upbeat.  With a musical theme – she boats a variety of venues to delight and entertain cruisers of all ages an interests – from classical to jazz to blues to broadway to pop – my personal favorite being dueling pianos!  Koningsdam steps outside the typical Holland American traditional “shell” and creates something youthful and fun.  The dining is innovative as well – including tasting menus, wine pairing dinners and a full cooking studio. 

I mention this ship specifically because of her summer r/t Vancouver cruises to Alaska.  There is some very new and special hardware plying the Alaskan waters starting in 2019.  Consider the Celebrity Solstice and Eclipse, the RCCL Ovation of the Seas, the beautiful NCL pair of Norwegian Bliss and Joy – and of course the lovely Koningsdam.  In the higher, more luxury sector we welcome the Silver Muse (600 pax and perfect for charters) and the newly renovated Mariner of the Seas (700 pax). 

The variety is far greater than what we have seen in the past – due in part to the widening of the canal – but more likely because of the demand for a safe, close to home destination.
